About Weather RocksWeatherman says 'sunny and warm', you get 'wet and cold'. Forecast calls for 'chilly and drizzle', you arrive to 'hot and clear'. Time and time again, we suffered through the same erroneous forecast, always wondering 'why can't I see the weather were I'm going!' That's the idea that started Weatherrocks.com Why a weather rock? Best we can tell, the folklore of the weather rock predates weather forecasting by hundreds of years, and in all that time, the rocks have never been wrong. So we thought the weather rock was the perfect backdrop for both our website and poking fun at the too-oft incorrect predictions of the weatherman. Were does the weather data come from? Like ALL weather sites, our forecast and radar come from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Weather Service RSS. Our site is updated every sixty seconds to reflect the most up-to-date forecast and radar information available. Where do the live pictures come from? Short answer. Users like you! Long answer. There are over 8000 cities in the United States and Weatherrocks wants a unique camera shot from each. It takes time to build a database that large. So in the interim, we subscribe to open source camera feeds and place those cities in 'Cities with Weather Cams.' Cameras set up as a cities exclusive 'weather rock' are placed in 'Cities with Weather Rocks.' These cameras become the default image when you search their city. Want to be your cities exclusive weather rock? Click here Get a Weather Rock. Why do some pictures not update every 60 seconds? Since we don't own the cameras, we don't set their refresh rate. Some cameras update every second, some minutes, others every 10 minutes and some once per day. We do require current and future Weatherrocks cameras to update at least every minute. Whats up with the ads? The ad above a Weatherrocks camera belongs and links to the camera provider. Its our way of saying thanks for the photo! Click it, they're nice folks. The ads to the right are how we pay the bills. Click it, we're nice folks! The ads to the bottom left are provided for the suppliers of internal content and other projects that we run and want to show case. That it? A site with a live photos, simple forecast and accurate radar, what else could you want? Joking aside, we're always trying to improve the user experience without complicating the site. So we really want to hear from you. If you have any comments or ideas, click here Contact Weatherrocks THANKS. |
